Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

  • Most meals are included in my hourly rate.  Children are required to bring a packed lunch or a dish to heat.

  • I aim to serve breakfast at 8:00 and dinner at 17:00. I feel it is beneficial for the children to all eat together at the same time, as it encourages social interactions, reflections and thus encouraging them to mimic good eating habits.

  • Lunch will be worked around pick up times at Pre-school. Aiming for 12:30.

  • Breakfast Cereal Choice

  •  · Weetabix · Rice Krispies · Cornflakes · Cheerios · Porridge

  • If the weather allows, then we may abandon the menu plan and have a picnic.

  • If we are out and about, then I will ensure there are provisions for all children.

Healthy Snacks

  • Healthy Snacks are also included in the hourly rate.  These might include items such as bread sticks, fruit, veg sticks, rice cakes etc.

Drinks

  • Water is readily available all day.  For special occasions, sugar free squash may be available.

Healthy Eating

Healthy Eating

Sunny Buttons promotes Healthy Eating! I encourage children to make healthy choices over the food they choose to eat.  We discuss the benefits of healthy food and how unhealthy food impacts our bodies.

I am in a great position to encourage young children to eat well and learn about food. This not only helps protect their health while young but also sets the foundations for their future health and well-being.

Shopping

Children are given the opportunity to grow, shop, prepare and cook food.

Children will aid me with the shopping and we will take weekly trips to the supermarket, the local fruit and veg shop, and the local butchers.

Children will be encouraged to select the produce, weigh items and pack the goods.

Child Participation

My Kitchen is clean, warm, bright and the furniture, plates, and cutlery are suitable for young children.

Children are involved in preparing, cooking and/or serving foods at snack and mealtimes.

Children are encouraged to try new foods.

Meal and snack times are used as an opportunity to talk to children about healthy eating, to help children to develop good eating habits, social skills including speaking and listening.

Food Hygiene

Policies and procedures are in place and are routinely monitored to demonstrate how responsibilities under the Food Safety Act 1990 are followed.

Sunny Buttons is registered with the local authority health department to provide food.

I have an up to date Food Handling Certificate and am fully trained in food storage, preparation, cooking and food safety.

Food from around the World

At Sunny Buttons, we recognise and celebrate a range of cultures and religions.  It is important to introduce all children to a variety of foods, so they can learn to appreciate the diets of different cultures.

Exploring food is a great opportunity to celebrate festivals and other cultures.

Allergens

Here are a list of the 14 allergens and if they may be present in the food shown in the above menus.
